One of my good friends turned 28 this past weekend (yes...I hang out with BABIES ;) ). Always looking for reasons to throw themed parties, another friend of mine and I decided to take her special day
back to 1982! Here was the "before" picture. I thought nothing said
"80's" like fruit-flavored
Shasta cola (except maybe Tab, but I couldn't find cases of that stuff at Costco!).

Here I am making the typical Covergirl circa-early 80's Teen Magazine pose....

We didn't plan a black and yellow theme...
but it worked for us :) ....

I had exclusive rights to the "after" photos
(taken the next morning....late the next morning....the party went till 1:30 am!).
Oh man!....whatever am I going to do with 50 cans of Shasta?

We had a huge turn out
, but only those who dressed up got to be in the pictures :).

Unlike some of my younger friends, I actually
LIVED through the 80's--
with a sister 10 years older than me. That night felt like putting on the old uniform and going back into battle! It only took my hair 5 minutes to remember how to be ratted up and hold a "wing"
! PLUS it was
waaaay too easy to find 80's clothes. I guess it's like they say:
Everything Old is New Again! It was an unforgettable night! I feel so blessed to have such great friends who know how to have good, clean fun :) Now tell me....
WHAT WAS THE WORST THING YOU WORE IN THE 80's?!
and....~Happy Weekending!~

purple EVERYTHING...including parachute pants (who am I kidding? I loved the swoosh, swoosh sound I made walking around :) ).
Was it Body Glove that made those heat sensitive t-shirts...?
The one with the man who lost his clothes when I 'warmed up'!
Skidz and tight rolled jeans...eww! And I could never get my hair to go as tall as the other girls.
oh, and how could I forget zcavaricci's!
Polka dot leggins' but in fairness, my mother pretty much dressed me back then.

How fun!!! I am a product of the 80's so I would just eat this up!!
I refuse to say it was a "worst thing" because I adored the 80's! My favorite era. I loved jelly shoes (which are back, but I have yet to see the high heeled ones like the good ol' times), jelly bracelets, pegged pants with 3 pairs of scrunchy socks, giant belts hanging from the waist. Oh such good stuff! You all look great!
Hey there, you dont know me. In fact, I just found your blog a couple of days ago. You are amazing. I DVR'd the Oprah show the other day and watched it this a.m. Fantasia was on there and sang the most amazing song. I was tearful. I have not gone through what you have gone through. My hubby is gone alot, too much really. I really connected with the song. And oddly enough, I thought of you.
I dont know how to post a video from youtube. I hope that you will check out Even Angels by Fantaisa, the Oprah version.

Wow what a fun party! I was born in the early 80s so I guess I can't really remember what I wore in the 80s - but my hubby is constantly trying to get me into 80s music! LOL
I was born in 76, so my 80s decade wasn't that dramatic. Plus, we lived in Alaska, which just wasn't that trendy clotheswise. I just can't claim that I was into it! I did have mall bangs though.
What a fun party!!
The worst thing I wore in the 80s? I think they were called Units. It was a clothing line, all t-shirt material. My favorite piece was a jumper that zipped up the front, you wore a scrunched up tube of cloth as a belt and the crotch of the pants came down to about my knees. It was HOT.
I was born in 1980 so my 80's fashions were bubble necklaces, slap bracelets, hot pink stretch (strriup) pants, and New Kids on the Block T-shirts with jellies. That was a typical weekday outfit for me! :)
It could've been those suspender pants with some really really tacky form of plaid top. The suspender pants came in lots of solid colors. And if you were big busted....UGH. It was NOT pretty! ;0/
What a great party! I remind my sister often that I skipped the parachute pants and Michael Jackson glittered glove trend. But in the late '80s I was all over the hairbow and jumper trend.
And I don't know if this was a nationwide trend or just a southern thing, but I had several jumpers with pants that kind of looked like Laura Ashley floral clown suits. I looked like a teenage toddler! No wonder my mom loved that style and my grandmother sewed so many jumpers. I can't really blame them, though. I suppose I will continue to keep Mary Ashley and Emma looking precious as long as I can, too.
Funny memories! You have made me giggle at myself today!
your party looks fabulous---i'm going to need your help coming up with a good theme for my birthday party in a few months time (i think that i might just throw myself a little shin-dig)
i think that the worst thing in the '80's (or early '90's) was stirrup pants....those were not so flattering (on anyone unless you were a size 2) -- but those scrunch socks were something else too.....how many were you able to pile on and then squeeze your feet into your keds?
Hey girl!
I left you some sunshine on my blog...
If you get the time check it out!
