Liam (almost 5) woke me up yesterday morning, very excited to show me something he had created (at 6am....when he was suppose to be sleeping...). I came into his room to find the whole box of Hot Wheels cars lined up.
"It's my store!" said Liam excitedly, "and you can buy all the cars you want for (insert dramatic 5 year old gasp here)....FREE!".
We played *buy cars* all morning until Liam announced that his store was closed and we had to go out now.
I went to clean my kitchen (cough--read blogs--cough), when, after about 15 minutes, Liam wandered out again and asked if I wanted to come back to the car store.
"But it's closed" I said, "you can't go into a store when it's closed".
Liam thought for a second and then replied: "Oh yes you can Mom. You just kick down the door and run inside before anyone catches you!".
Me (stifling laughter): "Uh, no--you really aren't suppose to do that".
All I have to say is--
Thank you PBS! Apparently Curious George is teaching breaking and entering now?

Yay for Mamakat and her KrA-Zay prompts :D
This totally sounds like something my son would do....there should be a secret club for 5 yr olds to swap their wonderful ideas...
oh yeah that's kindergarten!
The connections and suppositions of our young ones can really be amusing at times. I always wondered how they could grow up with a real understanding of the world given the view they had at five.
It was just such a joy to read this. My boys are older now, I miss those days.
Tell your little car salesman that he's offering a great deal during this tough economic time. Did he require a bail out package to stay in business?? :P
That is classic, and absolutely precious! But I'm with you on what he's learning from Curious George......curious!
that's too funny..very cute. Ya know, kids say the darndest things don't they :-)
Very cute story! Kids say the funniest things!
Cute story.
My boys always played with hot wheels when they were young. Good memories for me today. Thanks.
Oh, I like this! Yes, Curious George has taught my boys a few things too!
Kids are the best... Hands down, the best. My nine year old has a store also. It opens periodically and she sells homemade bookmarks, pencils she doesn't want anymore etc. The only kicker is--- she charges money $$ (I need to visit Liam's free store).
The show that's taught my daughter the most: "Even Stephens" from Disney Channel. I love this show, more than anything--- but it's taught her to throw things in the lunch room and often in public she'll make comments about underwear or something she learned from that show, sigh**.
it must be in=born in boys----mine are forever lining up cars.
and (gasp) up before six---i would NOT have been happy.
but my oldest thinks that if it is light outside, it is time to get up. he was up at 6 this morning....can't wait until next week with the time change (NOT!)
It is amazing the things shows will teach your children! Luckily, most of the things coming out of my five year olds mouth are more like: "Do I look fashionable?" Then again, maybe that's not better. . .
Liam is awesome! Your kids are brilliant...and they crack me up. Congratulations on your new car(s)!
How adorable. :) You have to watch out for that Curious George. He's a little skunk.
What a cutie! That Curious George is a little hooligan!
XOXOXO
Jen
Oh sweet Liam :) Aren't you so glad you took the time to play cars with him??? It amazes how much younger I feel after doing that! I'm really not a "player". I just don't know how to "play" and make car noises and stuff. I learn so much from those little guys :) I do love how they do try to preface that George is a monkey and does things that we can't do...but do kids really listen to that part??
What a great imagination!
Headlines read "Five year old ringleader found guilty in latest looting at carmart" ;-)
Cute story!
That made my first laugh of the morning!
Thanks!!
What next? Are they going to teach them that climbing trees and sitting on people's shoulders is okay? Good grief!
That's too funny!!
That's too funny!!
That was a huge thing for me to line up all of my cars, etc. How fun!
My entire basement is currently Jacob's store. He has his cash register and price tags and everything all set up. He recently "sold" it to Bailey because it was taking up too much time and he'd rather just work there :)
What a cutie. That's funny. Sounds like something my girl would say. Hmmm, she watched PBS too.
My kids would never take the time to line up their cars that way. I can't figure out why.
This is exactly why I Adore you. Your goodness as a mom just shines through.
6 a.m.? Oh my goodness do I wish I had that gene....the "wake up at the break of dawn to make my store awesome for mommy" gene.
Cool.
Oh dear... that Curious George! He's always the troublemaker!
SO CUTE! I love the photo of all the cars lined up so neatly!
that is too funny! i love how he had the cars all lined up and ready to go :)
sure it's PBS... we know you moonlight as a bank robber!
Wait... you mean...er... that's not how we are supposed to enter stores? That's why the lights are out??? because they are closed?
Oops... we learned something here today...
That is hotwheel heaven! What a cute kid.
That is funny, Oh for the love of Curious George! I love playing cars...
At least he'll know how to survive if the economy completely tanks. ;) I LOVE little boys!
What an adorable son you have! I love this story, and the pictures are beautiful!
Caroline lines up her Cars cars (does that make sens? The cars from the movie, Cars!) like this...and then pushes them at me, full-force. I return them to her, with the same force, and as each car hits her leg, she laughs, "That's not very nice!" Every. Single. Time. For half an hour.
Yes, we are big on the cars in our house. Wanna play cars next month? Seriously.
I just LOVED this! So fully captures the creativity, joy and fun of childhood! thanks for sharing ... it made me happy!
