of course we're uprightly surrounded

(because I like the idea of a bench being involved)

We are flattened evidence on a bench

Built into a series of substitutes

Made weary by ourselves,

Screenless windows propped open

to air out the morning news,

scatter of a work day

where structure is everything--

the beveled foundation of labor--

settled and expanding.

Shake off this light pollution

Step to the darkened boundary

Let night peck at us with its starry beak

Until we are prickled passionate fortifications,

Minarets before the buzz of sunrise

And purple. In everything.

*That was just to prove I am writing stuff....even if it's not specifically for my blog. Hard to believe I'm 5 months in to the 6 months I gave myself to write my poetry manuscript. I'm about 2/3 of the way done--assuming everything is publishable. I feel good about what I'm producing...when I can produce it. Currently, I'm reading Goethe, William and Dorothy Wordsworth, Rousseau, Blake,Coleridge, and a half dozen contemporary short story authors. So, yeah, not a lot of time for my own stuff right now. It's all in my head--my big bucket head--sloshing around. It just needs to get out on paper.

Now, because I know it's hard to comment on someones poetry (though you're welcome to give it a crack if you want!), I'll just ask you: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT FALL? And wish you a *good, good* day ;).

the smells for sure. Earth and cinammon. A spicy decay. I love it :)

The warmth....of candles toasting and of roasted colors. Yum.....pumpkins baking and family near.
I adore this thing we call Autumn!

The sound of children's laughter as the little characters run to the next house.

"I got TWO pieces of candy!"

"My turn to ring the doorbell!"

25 years after I stopped trick-or-treating, and the dialogue is still the same.

LOVE that!

Glad your manuscript is going so well.

keep up the great writing.

I {heart} about fall:
That deep feeling of gratitude that comes with Thanksgiving, crisp air, pumpkin recipes, getting out sweaters and stylin' boots, knowing the Holidays are ahead.

I love your poetry! My favorite part of fall is the food (big surprise there, right?).

It comes around each year and tickles us with frost and cascading leaf waterfalls.

It says "Hug the one you love. Closer."

It greets us with a showering fountain of colors, a giant kaleidoscope, if you will.

It backons with firepits, marshmellows on sticks and cacophonic waves of football cheers.

Autumn, most of all, reminds me of a girl who kissed me once when I was young. They share the same name, and the same beauty.

I like your poem and I miss the Fort Davis mountains where I spent my summers with the boy scouts.

Keep up the good work and congrats on fallig again!
