Happy Anniversary to our House!

dining room AFTER. We added the brick then I 'aged' it to get that Manhattan loft kind of finish. The Dick and Jane artwork is from a calendar I had, and I got the cool chandelir from Bombay Company for $75 when it had been $499 (hooray for discount stalking!)
Kitchen AFTER. We removed all the 15 year old plaid wallpaper, refaced cabinets, and got new appliances. The orange paint always makes me feel happy!
Living room AFTER. There use to be a wall along here. We tore it down, but created a pillar to support the dropped ceiling in the kitchen. I still have custom window treatments to hang, but we'll get there soon.
The kitchen BEFORE. We liked the layout and the granite countertops, but everything else needed work. The previous owners 3 puppies with loose bladders ruined the floors, and none of the appliances matched.

Kitchen/Dining BEFORE. The pillar is being built, all the wallpaper is down, but there is still so much to do. The previous owners had painted EVERYTHING purple, from light lilac to eggplant. We called it our 'purple palace'. This was about Oct.5 and it was mostly done by Christmas, and all done by February.

It was a year ago today that we moved into our new house and started 3 months of grueling remodeling. From the day we set the first box down and then punched a hole in the wall we wanted to remove, we knew we were committed. It was a TON of hard work (I still cringe when I see a paint can--not a good habit for an interior designer!), and I think we were all a little batty by the time we were done, but it has been well worth the effort. We love living here, love the extra space inside and out, and feel proud that the house is ready to weather the next 20 years. I'll try and locate exterior before and afters for the next post.

These are so fun to see. I know I've told you before, but your house really did turn out GREAT!
