If you have a little more to spend, I recommend separate closets. Just tell me you haven't had even one tiny disagreement about the state of the shared closet at some point. Mmmhmmm..that's what I thought :).
Finally, if you're just swimming in money, the ultimate gift you could give your happy marriage to stay happy is...separate bathrooms. And then be responsible for cleaning your own, or not cleaning it--it's all yours!
What is all this leading up to? Nothing related to marriage, actually. But I decided to make an investment in the happiness of my home. I have 4 boys. And for the past 10 years, I have had 3 barstools. Let's review that again: FOUR boys.....THREE stools. That's one less stool than boy. And it seemed to forever be a point of arguing (along with who gets the orange bowl, the Red Robin cup, and the Franklin Turtle spoon).
I'd had my eyes on these stools from Wisteria for a long time.....

Imagine how thrilled I was to find out about this company that sells to schools. My new barstools were on sale for $39.99 each with free shipping. So, that let me get all four stools shipped to me for less than I would have paid for one of Wisteria's. And mine have that nice ~industrial~ feel to them too (they were meant for science labs!):
And the best part of course is....there's one for each boy. As for me...I just stand. I don't mind :) .
What do you need your "own thing" of in your family to be happy?

You are too funny....and it's a good thing you did this post after you told us about breaking up or we all would have thought only one thing...:)Been praying for you.
Yippie for stool number four! I think I need a clean living room for this mama to be happy.
Nintendo DS's. We have 3, we need 4. Maybe for Christmas. :) And I'm of the opinion that seperate checking accounts works well for marriages too. :)
What a neat post! Thanks for sharing your stools and ideas to keep the peace:-)
Your stools look quite fabulous! They fit your home perfectly. How supremely awesome, now I kind of wish I had a bar.
We have separate checking accounts to, and honestly, we NEVER fight about money because of it! :)
Brian and I share bathroom counters and closets and beds and both park our cars in the garage. The way we do this is by having "sides". He doesn't mess with my side, and I leave his side alone. It works for us :) That's why only 1/2 of our closet is messy!
Cute! Please please please please come redecorate my home!!! Pretty please?
:)
Oh Man!!! I love it when I find a bargain like that!! Doesn't happen toooo often, but when it does...YAY!!!!!! Okay, so....I've been neglecting your blog....I am sooo sorry :( I just got all caught up from your past posts and man, I am soooo sorry for the Haute Cakes situation :( I really wanted that to work out for you!!! If He isn't supposed to happen "right now"...maybe He'll happen in the future...I know you don't want to hear this...but you guys were super cute :) I'll be praying for you Jennifer P.!!!!!!!!
Oh yea, and I need my OWN computer :)
I bet you can find some crafty chick out there who can spoof up the stools. :)
As for me...I need my own shampoo. If my husband (or son) gets out of the shower and smells like MY shampoo, I get mad. I mean, I am the ONLY girl in this house and I buy their manly scented soaps and shampoos and sprays (well, only DH needs the sprays, the rest are under seven :) so...DON'T use my (slightly more expensive then their sauve brand but still cheap cause it's just herbal essence at WM) shampoo. The end. :)
I'll share my skinny cow ice cream sandwiches but not if it's the last one! :)
Glad you got the stools. I'm in the market for some as well.....
As for the toothpaste, it's never bothered me to share, or the bathroom. We DID have to have our own SHEETS for the first several months though. I couldn't stand him pulling them off me. Now we share better.
And what mom sits? Aren't you up a hundred times during a meal anyway?
The stools look great.
I need my own sewing room!!!!
Great stools. I need 5 of them, but there's not enough room around the bar. *darn* Glad you found these at a good price. (Now what place did you order them, i went to the link but it took me to other places to shop. Help me, guide me.) :)
I would really like to have myself a nice comfy leather chair to sit in, back in the corner of my den.
My kids can't share toothpaste, but really, that's about it. They are pretty good about sharing, most of the time...
