this is what it means to be a grown up

Have I mentioned before that I love my friends? Seriously--we have SO much fun together!

Here we are at Wal*Mart the other night....

What is wrong with a grown man trying on pink backpacks while another grown man pushes a grown woman in a shopping cart? I don't think there's a single thing wrong with it.

Nor do I think it's all out of the ordinary to talk another one of your friends into putting a big bra on her head...

But in the midst of our fun, I heard some lady comment to her daughter "you'd never guess they were grown-ups..." I think she may have even clicked her tongue and rolled her eyes. And you know what--

It hurt....at first. We were not being disruptive or destructive in any way. We were laughing, but not obnoxiously loud. I think that lady may just have been***** jealous*****. Yup. Of course, 18 months ago, I probably would have observed a group like ours and made a similar comment. I may even have accused them of being drunk.

But one of the only good things to come out of my divorce was that I found myself again. Please don't take that in the wrong context--I don't want ANY of you to get divorced to go "find yourself".

In my case, though, I remembered how fun it was to just let go and be spontaneous. I've always been like that---but certainly never in public. My rather goofy side was reserved for family and close friends only. Now--well, I'm going to enjoy every minute I can (within a righteous context, of course--I'm not going to go rob a bank because I'd enjoy the money I got or anything like that). BUT....

If I want to dance with my kids in the middle of a parking lot, I do it. If I want to sing Blake Lewis songs really loudly and really horribly in the car with the window down, I do it. If I want to eat a bag of marshmallow circus peanuts for breakfast, I do it. And if I want to drive down the road wearing a luchador mask.....

I do that too.

And I must reeeeeally want to make my point if I put this picture of myself out in blogland!: Let go and be a little silly today. And ignore the tongue-clicking ladies who just. don't. get . it.

Reminds me of the Toys R US song....
I'll admit I'd probably roll my eyes at you guys while I walked away giggling....secretly wanting my OWN basket ride.
I'll remember to let loose a bit this week...Thanks!

Now I have to ask....is that your real mouth peeking out from the Lucheador mask?

Jennifer - you are too cute! Your friends sound wonderful. I think it's great that you go out and have fun. Who said being a grownup meant that life is boring???

XOXO

Sheesh, some people know all too well how to be grown-up...and fuddy duddy with their tongue-clicking.

Cute red shoes, by the way. Now I want some. To wear home from the hospital so something on me looks cute rather than, you know, deflated.

If you can't have fun at a Walmart, then whats the point of it all? :)

My favorite game is to wait until we're in a crowded aisle and remind Al of some products he forgot to grab "we still need to grab your hemorrhoid cream!".

Love the pictures and love seeing you happy! You go girl!

I thought the beauty of finding yourself was taking off your mask, but I guess for some of us that's not the case ... . Praying for lots of love and laughter for you, sweet and silly friend!

I'm a complete goofy gal and I love it LOTS!!!!!!!
I also LOVE that you are having so much fun and letting your hair down and being yourself. (like all those ands?)

I have some fun pics. of my husband and I with some friends at Walmart acting like freak-outs (we were in college and probably a bit on the "toasty" side). Nonetheless, I would TOTALLY do the same thing today.
Wish we could go be silly together, I love silliness.

Belly laughs are the BEST!!!!

So pre-marriage, and pre-babies, my friends and I used to do this kind of stuff all the time... Late night Wal-Mart runs dressed "in style," TPing friends and significant other's lawns (we helped clean up too), and just being silly... I am going to see said friends tonight... I think I will propose a late night Wally run after gLee and see what happens :) I will post pics just for you :)

What a great reminder that tons of fun can be had with friends. Without the aid of alcohol or drugs........and that being silly IS a good thing. I'm going to try! :)

Love this whole piece. Of course, if I let go any more and was any more silly it might be a bad thing... My only question is, what's your luchador name?
