How to entertain bored kids

O.K., so this may not entertain everyone's bored children, but it worked on mine who were in that wander around and sigh, sit in front of the TV and sigh, stand beside me wherever I am and sigh kind of mood. So I locked them in the family room for a little while, went outside and buried some kit kats in the garden. I marked them with an X made out of twigs, then drew them a treasure map. I talked in my best pirate voice as I told them the rules and handed over the map. They thought it was great! It only took them about 10 minutes to find the treasure, but I think they appreciated the effort as there was no more sighing for several hours.

When the boredom bug did pop its head up again, I went next door and borrowed our neighbor's dog, Maverick, to play with. He's the best kind of dog to have--he's fun to throw a ball for, to take for walks, and to dog-sit when they're gone--but we don't have to pay for the vet, the food, or clean up his poop (much).

Such a great idea. Too bad my garden is too hard to actually bury anything in. :( Next year I am FOR SURE rotatilling and planting something!!!

You're a "way cool" mom to even think of such a thing! Way to go.
