Easter is always the 1st Sunday after the 1st full moon after the Spring Equinox (March 20).
This dating of Easter is based on the lunar calendar that Hebrew people used to identify passover, which is why it moves around on our Roman calendar.
Based on the above, Easter can actually be one day earlier (March 22), but that is pretty rare.
This year is the earliest Easter any of us will ever see the rest of our lives. And only the most elderly (95 years old or above) have ever seen it this early. And none of us have ever, or will ever, see it a day earlier!
The next time Easter will be this early (March 23) will be the year 2228 (220 years from now!). The last time it was this early was 1913.
Now, don't you feel smarter?!
And just so you don't think I spent my Saturday researching the history of Easter dates, I got all this information from an email my mother-in-law sent me! And now,
THIS IS HOW WE SPENT SATURDAY NIGHT:
How to Color Easter Eggs at the Peterson Home..............
First make sure all your kids have taken their required Saturday bath, put on their pajamas, and have some good, goofy, just cleaned hairstyles:

Love the FACTS! I did not know any of that! And Easter egg coloring is a must in our house. Love the pics...especially of the "oh no it's not coming off" tears. Have a great day!
I am so excited about the little facts that I think I will present them at Easter dinner today, thank you for the converstaion piece!
I agree qitrh Debbie, my favorite picture is of James. That's adorable. Anyway, have a wonderful Easter. Oh, if you get a minute here or there...race for the cure registration website is komenboise.org. :) Hope to see you soon!
Oh Jennifer, you and I are so similar! First, I recognize the stickers from the egg coloring kit I got. Second, my fingers were blue, and third, I see my white x-backed chairs in your house. Um, also, my pastor talked about the date thing this morning at church. Are you, by any chance, Czechoslovakian? Then we could be related. LOL.
Happy Easter. I will have my own Easter Egg pics to post tomorrow.
♥ I always wondered how they figured out what day Easter was on! Thanks for the info! :)
Love the pictures! We had messy egg coloring too.
I hope you guys had a great Easter!
yup! nothin like waiting until the day before Easter to do the food coloring and everyone at church service the next day knowing you included "eggs" in you holiday tradition...(love the blue fingers shot...)
priceless :o)
Happy Easter...

Happy Easter Jennifer.
Great facts - I didn't know that.
I'm very glad Easter won't be this early for another 220 years because not only did it completely sneak up on me, but it snowed. I looked like I had an orange hand when I saw the flakes flying. "Yuck!!! Waaaaaaaa!"
i am so bummed i didn't get it together enough to de eggs this year.
lame mommy.
this looks like lots of fun. messy is good.
getting messy is so freeing.

I love to die easter eggs I'm glad my kids still want to do that sort of thing. I had gotten an email about Easter not being this early for long time...thank goodness I don't like this early.
