I have many weaknesses. I fight being awake before 7 am.
I don't like to go to restaurants where the music they're playing doesn't fit with the food that I'm eating. I
must have my ice cream on Saturday night.
AND--I can't throw a children's party. Aaaahhhh...
that felt good to admit. Maybe it's because I never had elaborate parties growing up.
Maybe it's because I'd rather spend the money on presents.
Maybe it's because I've been to or seen too many
totally fantastic kids parties
(Elena!!!) that I think
"No way can I ever do that, so I'm not even going to try!". Whatever the reason-- birthdays around here are full of fun and making the birthday kid feel special.......
but not much partyin' down. For his birthday, I took Liam and his little friend from next door to a family arcade to play for an hour where they rode the carousel, tried their best to play Skee Ball, and came home with lots of junky prizes you win with tickets.
Next we came back here where my sister, my brother and their kids joined us for Kentucky Fried Chicken
(Liam's favorite) and cake.
Then there was the opening of the presents and a lot of
loud running around. There were no clowns or magicians. Nobody got to play any organized games.
No one took home a treat bag. Someone should take away my mother card!!!Here are the pictures anyway ;)...............
Liam asked for a Very Hungry Caterpillar cake. Does this look more like a caterpillar
or an alien to you?
Some guests were a little confused, you see. At least Liam liked it!
Making a wish!........ He said that he wished he could be 10!

Checking out his
"loot". My brother decided
an ant farm was a good present for a 4 year old. It says
"escape proof". I hope that means
"Liam proof" too--
I don't care to have a loose colony of ants roaming my house!
And here was what my house looked like for most of Tuesday.
I'm kind of wondering what made me think Mouse Trap was a great gift idea......but no one asked to play the wii until after noon!
Hooray for new stuff!(and if anyone knows of a good support group for mom's who can't throw parties, let me know! I think I could be their president.)happy birthday again my liam. i sure do love you lots and lots!

You are too funny. Parties or not, the kids will have fond memories of their birthdays. I think it sounded like a great day. (My kids LOVED Mouse Trap until Grandma got sick of it and threw it away. Good luck with that.) And maybe the ant farm needs to be an outside pet. :P
I don't think there is a support group for MWCTP (Mom's Who Can't Throw Parties)..but if there were, I would be right there with you! I get so busy, that I forget about the special day until like a week before. Which of course, means that it is too late to invite anyone. So we end up having a lot of family birthdays! So far the kiddos are too young to really recognize the difference. But I think that is about to change when my five year old turns six this year. Sigh. Maybe I'll be a recovering MWCTP by then. Oh, my other problem is that I don't entertain children well at all. My children entertain themselves and each other. And I really don't like to babysit other people's darlings either..lol. It's a wonder I even had kids! I think that all of these factors contribute to my delinquency as a MWCTP.
Hi, my name is Mrs. Querido and I cannot throw a children's birthday party...
I think it was fine! They are kids, and not going to know the difference of how fancy a party is if there are the 3 major components:
1, cake
2, games
3, gifts.
Looks like you covered all the bases to me!!
Oh, I'm with you...we never did parties growing up (I had a party for my 13th birthday...the only one ever), but we do lots of special stuff with the kids at home...special dinner, cake, ice cream. I DO NOT think that our (yours or mine) children are deprived...our priorities are just different.
Sounds like a fun time was had by all...those are the best birthday memories, anyway!!!
happy birthday...(at least his wish will come true someday :o)
~simply~
Am I allowed to admit out loud now, that I too strongly dislike kids parties? I don't like giving them, and I don't like going to them...so I make my unsuspecting husband take the kids. :) Last year my 7 year old opted for a sleepover with one girl...nice dinner, cake, etc...And to this day I love her even more for it! Oh and the Mousetrap thing made me laugh because my son got one for Christmas and most of Christmas Day it looked like your picture. Come to think of it, I don't think we have actually played the game. I think we just watch the marble do its thing.
My sister in law is the kind of mom who has these elaborate b-day parties every year for each of her seven kids. My children have experienced the caos and actually request quiet boring parties instead. Go figure.
♥ Who needs a huge kid party when there are fantastic family parties like yours! That's what we do too. :)
So glad to know that I'm not alone!!! Not that I have anything against people who are able to throw great kids' parties--in fact I take my hat off to them--I'm just saying I have my limitations for sure ;)!
At least I don't give my kids an old sock like poor Harry Potter. The Dursley's make us all look good, right?!
your kids will remember their birthdays as special no matter what their cake looked like or how big or small their party was. it does not reflect on you as a mom. the big parties make me cringe. how can you top a bouncy house at 4 years old? have you see my sweet 16 on mtv? it's all about the bigger better party.
kids need to know they are loved and they are special...without stuff.
you did a great job...especially if they didn't ask for the wii all morning! :)
Why do you think I usually have Lucas' parties somewhere else......they do all the work, and I still look great.
I hate mouse trap! I also hate goodie bags!
Looks like everyone had a great time and that's what it's all about right?
Wow you know no matter how elaborate a party is, all that matters is how much fun is had, and this looks like a success. Happy Birthday to Liam!
I'd like to throw my hat into the "I dislike kids birthday party" ring. I always feel so guilty about not having 400 kids over and renting a jumpy thing but I don't wanna! And you can't make me. :o) Thankfully my kids have happy birthdays without all of it. Happy birthday to your son!
It looks like a great party...and treat bags are over.over.rated! If you even consider buying Mouse Trap, you have a mom card...and once it has been bought, you get a second card in the mail! You look like a fabulous mom!
...oh, and thanks for the sweet comment on my blog!
Fabulous job! Bravo! I would need the support group if I wanted to change, but I don't! I don't want them to have huge elaborate parties. It's all about love and there are so many more ways to show that.
My biggest B-Day pet peeve is when my child brings home a gift nicer than the gift we gave the birthday gift. This whole party thing has just gone WAY over the top!
I'm reading older posts...
I just have to say, that I'm soooo glad someone else besides me does not throw elaborate birthday parties and send each kid home with a "loot/treat" bag.
So refreshing!
