open letter to the magical christmas elves who so rudely ignored me

Dear Magical Christmas Elves,

You know I believe in you, right?

I left out all of the things you needed to decorate my barenaked Christmas tree. I left you cookie (crumbs) and milk. I left my door unlocked. I would have given you a big shout out on the blog if you had JUST. SHOWED. UP and did me a little favor. You do know I'm single this year, right? That wrapping lights around a fat, fake tree isn't all that easy to do solo? You also know that it's Dec. 11 for crying out loud, and my kids would probably like to have a little Christmas cheer around here?... but that it's finals week and I am busy writing business proposals about electric lawnmowers, and putting together power point presentations about Ernest Hemingway, and other things soooo not holly or jolly?

But, really, it's fine...

I get it.

You have other things to do obviously.

Maybe shopping for little pointy toed shoes? Or some new jingle bell bling for your hat?

It's cool.

I finally just did all the decorating myself.

And I'm taking all the credit.

Merry Christmas from the lazy bloggy lady who JUST NOW realized ummmm.....it's December....maybe I should attempt to at least mention something holidayish (?),

~Jennifer P.

Next time perhaps we shall tackle: Open letter to the Salvation Army guy who sighed a disappointed kind of sigh because I only put 50 cents in the red kettle. That wasn't very Dear Sweet Infant Lord Baby Jesus-like of you sir..... :p

You did a great job all by yourself! Sorry the Christmas elf didn't pull through for you. :)
I hope your exams go well. Have a great day.
Blessings,
Linda

Elves or no elves, you did a great job on your tree! And maybe they were too busy gift wrapping good grades for you this semester to tackle the fun stuff. Blessings to you!

Luckily, you did a spectacular job by yourself. Next year the elves will have to show up just to assure themselves they can do just as fabulous a job as you!

Your tree looks beautiful and don't you feel good for having done it all by yourself :)

Mine has been sitting bare for 5 days. Hoping to get it decorated... finally... tonight.

I LOVE your tree!!! It's so Energetic! (Can you call a Christmas tree 'energetic'? I don't know... but I just did.) Great job! You should definitely be taking all the credit!!

And there's those animal crackers I love so much on your tree. (Did you see them in my Christmas garland? I did them just for you.) You know the ornament that I've lost and so wished I could have back....my Steve Irwin. He must have wrestled an alligator or maybe a mouse, and he's gone forever. I'm so sad. Your tree looks lovely, now, go hunting for a pre-lit tree for next year. No lights to tackle.

It does look lovely and so festive. I had to just let in one year and have the kids do it. I know it was uneven and one section had all the train ornaments but it was their tree and so it was their decorating. Now they do a much better job but it is still their tree and I just get to sit back and hand them another ornament.
Good luck on finals and then take a big time off from too much thinking!!!

Those elves left me high and dry too! My bare tree has been sitting there since Thanksgiving night! I finally put the homework down last night and decorated it myself! EH! Yours looks MUCH better than mine!!!

i can't beleive that your boys didn't decorate the house while you were gone with MM....my oh my, what has the world come to---at least the end result is a smashing success!
btw--i love your "P's" on the wall...i've been thinking that I want to do something like that...but just putting a P on the wall seemed kind of funny to me...so I think that I like the three differing sizes (thanks for the idea!)

Your tree is lovely. Those elves have been very undependable lately.

Hope your exams and finals go well. You can do it!

The tree looks great, better tahn if some elf thing had done it. How is your 198 project coming along?

Priscila said...

It's a gorgeous tree! It could be worse, you could've had my boys decorate your tree like they did mine, all lopsided and just the middle section.

I love your JOY too!

Looks better than mine. My kids helped, and they like to hang all the ornaments grouped together. I guess it's so they don't get lonely.

Your tree is adorable!! I love how creative you are!!! You're ahead of me ... mine still has nothing on it. Maybe someday.

Thanks for the compliments on my "JOY"! It's just white corrugated paper that I cut out---y'all could have your very own for about 10 cents ;)!

Plus the gas for the drive to the store-- though admittedly that's cheap again. . . .

And yes, add me to the chorus of voices saying you did great!

And check out what I just posted on my facebook page too, as long as you're online ;-)

I hated finals being so late in December--good luck with those, especially the Ernest Hemingway presentation. Just thinking about him makes me depressed.

I love your tree. I love your Roman Shades--did you make them yourself? I'm wondering if I can make some for my 5 feet wide, two feet tall 60's windows, or if they won't work on that size of windows.

Good job on your cute tree Jen. My tree looks like it was decorated by 4 little ones..which it was :)
Good luck with your finals..you will do great!

Great job!!! Brian is the Christmas decorator around here...he likes the lights put on the tree "JUST SO"...sooo, I let him :) Your tree looks awesome! Being nosey again...are we gonna hear more about MM???!!! Forgive me!

Beautiful tree, and very witty post! :) Now, you need to figure out how to catch those elves to take the Christmas stuff DOWN at the end of the month.

Jenners said...

Stupid neglectful Christmas elves! You showed them...they would have only put the ornaments about 6 inches high off the ground anyway so it is just as well!

Great post, as always!

Your tree looks great! Very hip! Love seeing the Ps behind it.

The salvation guy would have groaned out loud at my .35 cents then. I just dig in the bottom of my purse every time.....well I'm running out of change.

HellllllooooooOOOO!!! HHHORRRAY for being able to sit here and type, and type, and type some more!!!

I must admit though, I have to stop soon! I commented all through Elena's stuff, and now I'm onto yours, and my little neck just doesn't agree with computer stuff.

WHY.Is. That?

Anyway...You're just so much fun. I love how you didn't just do the "before and after". You just love to write and it oozes out of your pores. I always think, "was she just on a roll, and soon, she'll go back to some 'normal self' and not write so entertainingly?"

Nope.

You're just a fun writer....every time.

Nothing like a bit 'o' pressure. Sorry. I'm glad you enjoy yourself, because I certainly enjoy "yourself" too!

Happy Holidays Jennifer P. It's good to be "almost back".

Ooooooooooooh...I CAN'T WAIT to read the "boy post", and I can't WAIT to see his picture!!!!! Elena told me, and didn't ruin the surprise.

yes...I'm clapping in my head (without hurting myself) and squealing with excitement!

Did you quote Ricky Bobby at the end of this post?

Forget MM...will YOU marry me? We can use your newly decorated tree as our altar centerpiece.

I love that your tree is so JOYful! I have a littel elf who keeps UNdecorating my tree...! I've finally given up and we are doing just lights this year. You gotta do what you gotta do!

You did do a great job though! Love your tree! And I love the P's on the wall, super cute... I haven't put up ANY decorations in my house yet, but I did get it clean and ready this week after moving in my pretty (gently used, but new to me) PB sofa! I am having the slip covers dyed chocolate brown later this month, so my husband (also know as Toby - destroyer of all things light colored) doesn't ruin them (he already marked one of the arms with a pen a little and got brownie crumbs on it), for now it is covered with an ugly, ill fitting cover...

I **LOVE** your tree. So very cute! Who needs elves? And yes, putting on lights by your solo pretty much STINKS. And nothing should stink on Christmas. The fa-la-la-la-la's don't start until those flipping lights get on and the swearing stops.

Your tree looks delightful, despite the lack of Christmas elves showing up to help!

I imagine you are pretty full of Christmas spirit, just by your nature...so your kids are probably plenty pumped up!!

Have a great weekend!

Loving the tree! I like that you have both big and small items on it. When we get back to the US, I need to find some bigger ornaments.

Thanks for sharing!

If it makes you feel any better, I tend to be the only one around when the decorations come out. I do the tree solo every year. The kids kind of watch and occasionally throw on a snowflake, but all that light winding and garland stringing and ribbon weaving is mine. . .all mine. Yay! It's probably just that I am anal and wouldn't appreciate the help.

And speaking of the bell ringers, we signed up to do it this year on Christmas eve morning. I did not realize at the time, however, that our normally mild weather would turn bitter cold. Too bad we signed up for a location that won't let you stand inside while you ring the bell.
