i can do all this today, right?

TO DO LIST:

read my scriptures, make waffles for kids for breakfast (will they know if I toast frozen ones? hmmmmm....), get to step class, purge the McDonald's toys that are piling up, sort through Ethan's jeans and get rid of the ones with holes in the knees, read a chapter of tech comm, outline final group proposal, read blogs (don't forget SITS this time!), pick up and deliver cookie dough from PTA fundraiser, buy new boy scout shirt, arrange for tour of local pizza place, RSVP for two baby showers, shampoo carpet in anticipation of Friday's "Funny Movie Night" being hosted here, write out to-do list for this weekend (more leaf raking and last mow need to be on there!), read a few more blogs, return emails, lunch time, (hey! it's now 1 pm so I better--) take a shower, call for haircuts for all of us, balance the check book, pick Zane up from school and take him to look at footballs, play Go Fish with Liam, work on play doh with James, locate perfect shade of gray-purple for client/friend's bedroom, read more blogs (yeah--like you guys don't do that all day too :) !), check out new Dido album on recommendation of a friend, help Zane walk the neighbor's dog, dinner time, dishes time, watch The Office, do daily 200 crunches, buy more milk, plan meals for next week, read scriptures with the kids then a chapter in "Swiss Family Robinson", read "Little Critter's Just Me and My Little Brother" for the billionth time, fold a basket of laundry, put away a basket of laundry, make brownies and hide them so they don't get eaten before Friday night, read more blogs, talk on the phone until waaaay too late because everyone knows they can call Jennifer after 10 and she'll be here, suddenly feel exhausted and wonder why I am up at 2:45 am again when I swore I would start being in bed by 1....or 2.

*Sigh*

Do you ever have lists this long? Is this "normal" for anyone else? What is the ONE thing you wish you could cross off your to do list permanently? Mine would be sleep. Seems like such a waste of good hours :) .

Wow, that's an impressive list all right.

Do you *really* have to do leaves and mowing on a Thursday though? Isn't that a) better left for Saturday or b) You're seriously mowing your lawn in late November? and who cares about leaves anyway? They're gonna disappear under the snow soon and then no one will see them. . . .

Funny...I was just on the phone with Jim last night in full panic mode over getting my list done before I leave for Ohio on Friday. He had to keep reminding me to do what I could, prioritize and know if it doesn't all get done, then oh well. He said do what you can with what you have, know you tried to get it all done, and be satisfied.

But yeah, full on, nervousness and panic right now.

Somehow, I am sure you will get it all done. I was also thinking... isn't yard work a Saturday thing? And you could fold laundry while you watch the Office to check two things off at once.

Good Luck! And remember, do what you can with what you have.

Oh yeah, my list gets really long. I try to start with just the top 10 things I need to get done, but that never works. Before I know it I have 20 - 30 or more items that suddenly seem so important and must be done first. I would cross out laundry. There are seven of us and well, I get tired of doing laundry all day, everyday!

A giant "to-do list".... sounds familiar! I wish I could cross off exercise permanently. Of course this would only be if I could still stay and shape and be healthy without it! Seriously though, sometimes when I am in a time crunch it is the first thing to go. I spend quite a bit of time working myself up to doing it and then actually going through with it.
Today I will run 4.5 miles....(hopefully)....but the dog won't get a bath and the fridge will not be cleaned out! It's definitely a trade-off....

LAUNDRY!!! I absolutely hate it...I can't stand the way it sits there in a pile in my laundry room...mocking me!!!

I miss the Little Critter books.....always loved them!!

PS. Don't shampoo the carpet before your party...waste of time...wait until next week...AFTER the party.

I hate it when Blogger does that....tricks you into thinking you didn't push the button so you click it again...and then your comment pops up twice!!

So, I've been lurking...but must comment on this post! YES, I have had to - do lists this long. It's ridiculous. I think you could probably do all these things today, but do you really WANT to? Goodness, how did life get so busy? Good luck!! We'll be crossing off our lists together!

Sounds like an average day in the life of a mom :) So much fun. If I could cut anything out of my day it would be the trips to the bathroom. I would have so much more time in my busy day.

Your list looks like my list. Except that I really ought to write them down so that I get everything done. And my list is missing that exercise. Which really should be there. But it's not.

well, i'd like to cross all the wedding planning off my list.

you are super mom.

I should do a list but then I just get depressed....

But I'm glad to see someone else stays up as late as i do.

I'm telling you, YOU ARE GOING TO GET SICK if you don't start sleeping lady! Yes, how's that for a motherly scolding? And seriously, I'm with Magson, let the leaves be. The wind'll blow em away soon enough.

Make a list that looks like this and do it:
sleep in
eat breakfast kids make for ME
play outside
look at blogs
tidy up for a few minutes
go for a picnic
read something fun
play-dough/football/go-fish
eat sandwiches for dinner
read
snuggle
go to sleep
JUST FOR ONE DAY!

Yeah, I know. I probably couldn't do it either.

I used to have what seemed like a looong "To-Do List". Eventually I just got better with handeling everything (well, mostly everything ;) ) quickly though.

Oh and the one thing I wish I could cross off my list FOREVER is school or at least just Math!

You've got to be kidding me!

My to do list could be this long if I sat down and made one. I try not to do these lists, b/c I feel like I set myself up for failure. I LOVE making to do lists though, they make me feel in control as I write them.
I would mark off Laundry for good. Wish I could do that.
I like to stay up late as well, but it usually gets the best of me the following day or days.
Look at you and your 200 sit ups. I use to do 100 every day....not anymore...but I should.

Ronnica said...

I like sleep, but I'd love it if I never had to commute. That'd be at least 5 hours/week that I could use for something else!

Tamie said...

cleaning the toilet and dusting...hate, hate, HATE to do those two things...everything else is ok, and i don't mind doing, but i hate those two things with passion and as a result there usually is a pretty thick layer of dust on my furniture before i pull our the pledge and a rag and will dust...

Themorrisbunch said...

200 crunches? Serious?

Umm, yeah. That's a normal day. Plus the fact that you've got kids in activities, which I don't, so my daily list doesn't look quite as impressive. (But of course, I'm here reading blogs and my older kids are rocking the baby back and forth in his walker...hope he doesn't puke.)

Go Mom!

But you really should get more sleep. Who cares about leaves?

Susie said...

That's about right! If I could, I would get rid of laundry.

"The Queen in Residence" said...

I think I would still keep sleep as my priority.....I love to sleep, but never get enough. I think the one things that I would permanently corss of, paying bills. I want them to all just go away. Poof!!! No more, that would eliviate so many things to do and life would be sublime......
My broup is slated for the 7:35pm showing at Edwards' so maybe I finally see you there. Have a great night!!!! Women are going to rule the night on Friday, men should be very afraid to go out alone.....

Ashley said...

Why sleep when you could blog? Haha!

That list does look pretty intimidating. I avoid putting my to do's on a list so that I don't feel so bad about not getting to it all... the problem with this is, of course, I don't get it done.

Serena Abdelaziz said...

Yeah, a mom of four (with three boys) and PREGNANT........my list seems like it never ends.

I think I would love to mark off mopping. I HATE mopping, because I really only think the floor looks clean when it's done by hand. AND I hate doing it by hand.

I really don't mind laundry too much, which is good with a family of six, soon to be 7.

Thanks for the reminder, that I am NOT alone.

Girl -- that is a very long list! I say forget about the house and yard work and just spend time with those cute boys of yours! You get alot don. I am in awe of you. Thanks for bringing so much laughter into my life!

Aaaaah, wouldn't that be heavenly not to need sleep? That would be an extra eight hours (oh, who am I kidding...six maybe) to do... whatever. When I was in middle school, I saw a Twilight Zone episode where a woman was able to stop time and she would still be able to function normally. I always fantasized about all the things I could accomplish if I had that power. One problem with it, though. People would probably wonder why I was aging so quickly.
: )

DixieJo said...

I would get rid of dishes and laundry if that were possible.
I like sleep way to much. Is it the silence or the peace, or the rest... ummm sleep.

WheresMyAngels said...

My job for sure because it takes too many hours out of my day! I work way more hours than I would ever sleep.

WheresMyAngels said...

Oh and I got another list for you. I just went thru all your music (that is on here today) and believe it or not, there were some songs I really like.

So here is the list:

Groove is in the heart
Dancing with myself
People are People
The Killers (track 4?)
Another brick in the wall
The gambler
Time Warp
A little less Conversation (my fave on here)

So, now I thought that you could just take all that other less then pleasing stuff off. Cause I know you want to do everything you can to accommodate me;)

I think its funny that we all read every word of your list. Knowing we all have our own lists that aren't getting done because we're busy reading yours.

Ha!

And the worst thing on that list is the RSVPing for the babysitters. I know I did a whole series on that in the summer, but I totally still hate doing it. Urrr.

I just found your blog, and I'm loving it! Your to-do list picture had me cracking up. That was my day yesterday. Ugh. I did nothing (except vacuum, and do the dishes, and rake leaves, and write a blog entry, and watch videos with my 3 year old son, and read blogs, and cook dinner, and go to book club.....) Why does it feel like I did nothing yesterday??

Brittany Ann said...

You are a better woman than me. I don't do anything with the leaves. I figure I'll just tell people I think they are too pretty to rake up. Then I don't look lazy and I also look like an environmentalist with an artistic eye! :)

I would cross off clenaing. I swear, one day I am going to invest in a maid!!

Your list made me tired.

Em said...

You are a wonder woman! I had a three hour glucose test today and to kill time started writing thank you notes for birthdays that were three months ago... I got so dizzy from the nasty sugar drink that they gave me a bed to lay down on and there I slept through the next two hours... finishing ONE thank you note! I thought I was going to get to cross off that one HUGE monkey on my back... nope, I'll add it on tomorrow's list!

I JUST read through your list and was going to comment this morning, when..

POOF

my computer shut down....turned itself off....done....black....silent.

See how tired you made my computer? SEEE? You EXHAUSTED IT with your to-do list!! It just shut right down!

You think I'm kidding don't you?

The power DID really go off, right after I read this post.

I hope this isn't an omen....ominous omen.

Am I the only one COMPLETELY AGREEING with Elena??????

Okay...Jennifer gets to live her very full life, crunches and all.

Just don't go POOF on us....

pretty please?

Delete was me...don't you hate it when you can't tell who did it? I wanted to change one tinsy weensy thing....and I did....now I'm satisfied with my comment.

Oh to get rid of laundry...that would be a dream come true :)

It's pretty incredible everything we do. And we even do it when we're sick. I think I had the same list today. Go to bed. I agree, I would do without sleep -- too much I want to do. Good night

Aubrey said...

Did you really do ALL of that? Cuz if you did, then, WOW. I'm soslow at doing things, that my lists are more like the one in the picture and then I consider it a bonus if I do more. My Mr Efficient and Productive husband just LOVES it. The littlest one has diarrhea today--he can stick his overproductive face in that before asking what I did today! ;)

Cailean said...

This was a great idea for a post and I LOVE the cartoon at the top :) So I'm a list person and love crossing things off my list. I think I'd love to cross "get more energy" permanently off though!

Jenni said...

You are hilarious. . . and my list is just as lengthy lately--which would explain why I have not posted in over a week. I keep saying I am going to catch up and get back on top of things, but there are just MORE things! I would quit sleeping too, but I have kind of been doing that lately, and it's not helping!!

But I keep optimistically making my lists, believing that I will eventually get to cross it all off.

Pemberley Court said...

WOW HOLY COW!!! I thought my life was crazy!!!! You are so strong!

I don't know how you do it all...I really don't! You are amazing JP.

You're list looks awfully familiar! I couldn't tell you how encouraging it is to see another 'list' person who is overwhelmed by such a daunting list. That's me in a nut shell. {Sometimes, I'll run across an old list...I'll stop, read it, cross off the completed tasks, and then throw it away!} I really do this. I don't know, its something about crossing them off that I love. Its the satisfaction of knowing that I accomplished something, I guess. :)
