It seems my sister is forever winning radio contests. This time she won, and passed on to us, 4 free tickets to the Bee Movie premier tonight. It was kind of, sort of good. Funny, but with a lot of different aspects to the plot that didn't go anywhere. I love Jerry Seinfeld though, so I can't say not to go see it; but if you have to choose between seeing the movie and say, buying food for you children, buy the food :). And that, plus a crazy last day of Commonwealth School until January, was our Friday!
Today I must say I'm most grateful for big salads. I make a great one with a maple mustard vinegarette, frisee', toasted pecans, and a little wedge of petit Buche' cheese, and for as long as it takes me to eat it, I feel slightly more grown up than the peanut butter and jelly around me (this is a totally frivolous thing to be grateful for, but a little frivolity never hurt any one too much!)

Bummer, I am so sad to hear it's not GREAT! But fun that you got to go see it for free.
Your salad sounds like a foreign language to me. Seriously, I don't know what half of that stuff is. (Frisee, buche, etc.) But it sounds yummy and definetly grown up!
frisee' is the kind of lettuce that looks like almost like it's shredded at the edges (sometimes sold in a "field greens" salad mix)-- Has kind of a peppery bite to it. Petit Buche' is a really creamy (not salty) french goat cheese that they roll in a 5-pepper crust. It comes in a cylinder shape, so you can cut little wheels of it and it tastes wonderful with anything sweet. It's common enough now that you can get it at Albertsons.
We went to a definetly "grown up" restaraunt for Brad's b.day. There was pumpkin-seed puree' stuffed ravioli made with squid ink, some kind of fish I'd never heard of with a pickled okra and pineapple chutney, and also genuine frog leg soup. I had to look around to make sure we were still in Boise!
I want hear more of your "culinary review". How did that stuff taste? Definately not a place for me! Too much stuff that came out of water. Wow!
oh no--we didn't actually eat any of that stuff, it was just on the menu. Let's see, I had gnocci with a ricotta sauce, and Brad had a $30 steak that was about the size of a quarter, 2 pieces of asparagus, and a small crab stuffed artichoke heart. At least the dessert (bananas foster) was wonderful!
The chef at that restaraunt (sixonesix) use to be the chef at our favorite place, The Dish, but it closed. He went and opened this place which is far more snooty. I like kind of fru-fru bistro-style food, but this was a bit much!
