Play Room

I had to go to the dentist today, and had a nice conversation with my hygienist (as much of a conversation as one can have with various utensils being stuck in her mouth!). Anyway, we got onto the subject of decorating and remodeling and I told him I was an interior designer. He asked me if I'd ever done a playroom and thinking back, yes I had. We made an appointment for a consultation, and so I went through my files to find the playroom pictures and thought I'd share. This room was done for my pediatrician about three years ago (he lived in your neighborhood Elena). I painted the pale yellow and cream stripes on the wall first. Then I had a carpenter build the bookcases, window seat, and book racks based on some drawings I made. The PLAY letters are from Pottery Barn Kids, I just mounted them with liquid nails onto some painted canvases. My friend Kimberlee Dray from Draypes did the sewing (she can always make exactly what I see in my head!). There was a really cute pair of matching curtains we put over the closet on the other end too. Also a huge red-framed magnetic board divided into three sections for their three boys. You can just see the corner of a train table I had built then painted the top with chalkboard paint so they could do art projects or draw little towns to run the trains through. I would not have chosen the multi-colored blade ceiling fan, but it was there already and they wanted to keep it, so oh well.
TODAY I'm thankful for my business, The October Co. Interiors, that I've run for the past 12 years now. I don't charge as much as I could, or maybe even should, but helping people create rooms they love within their budget is very rewarding. And getting out of the house every now and then is a pretty nice bonus too--though it seems as soon as I'm gone I can hardly wait to come back.

I totally remember you doing this room. It's fun to finally see pictures of the finished product. Looks cute. I love the letters on the canvas!

I love the window seat built in with the bookshelves. I'm constantly gathering ideas.....someday I'll use them!

Jennifer!!!! I'm so impressed. This room is darling. I love it. You'll have to share some of the other rooms you've decorated.

I wish I had you near by to help with my house. I'm terrible at decorating. I think I've had a paint swatch on the dining room wall for 6 months now. Ha! No curtains either. Sigh.
