back from school report

Thanks everyone for being so anxious to hear how my first day went! I only had one evening class today, and so this report may not be as exciting as you'd hoped. First of all, the professor WAS either younger than or just slightly older than me. At least he claimed to be the professor. It was hard to tell since he was dressed like a homeless person. (really!---on a professor's salary you couldn't afford a tie? Or at least do the buttons up on your cuffs and maybe iron your shirt?...those last two are FREE! Note to self----never let professor read blog.....). He did seem like a knowledgeable teacher though, and he's a fan of A.R. Ammons--- so he can't be all bad! For those of you wishing a good looking guy to be in my class-----NOPE! There are only 15 of us in there, and half the men looked like they would have rather been playing dungeons and dragons. The other half looked like they may have hailed from middle-earth. (one more note to self----never let any fellow male poetry students read blog....). So there will be no "love connection" with anyone in my class :), just me and my rusty-trusty hedgehog notebook writing lots and lots of poems which you will probably be forced to read as my way to multi-task blogging with homework:

Don't you love my classy modeling job?! :)

On a related, but more sad note---the fate of my weekend Linguistics class is up in the air because of this: http://www.newwest.net/city/article/body_found_in_boise_wildfire/C108/L108/. I think just reading the title of that says it all......but my professor was the sole victim in wildfires that burned 10 homes last night. Sorry to leave you on such a gloomy note........

The minute I heard that she was a prof. and in the English department I wondered if you would have had her for any classes. Wasn't that so sad. I stayed up til midnight watching the coverage (still up til midnight tonight as well).

I'm glad things are going okay so far. Too bad about the no cute guy thing in your night class :(

That is SO sad. My mom asked me today if we were still going up there with all the fires--I didn't realize they were in the city/residential areas! I guess I like to play with fire ;) I want a vacation!

Mikki--
Go to bed girl :)! And no big deal about no one cute---I think we've discussed enough that I will NOT be dating for some time!!!

Aubrey--
I felt so stupid that I didn't even realize we had fires until today! Guess that's the danger in getting all your news from talk radio! So--no worries...come on down!

That is so sad.

Sorry there were no men to hook up with :(

I read your blog this late night and liked it enough to add you to my bookmarks on my own blog!

I REFUSE to buy anything Hannah Montana or Highschool Musical- not that I haven't beennagged for such items. Yay! You survived class. Thanks for stopping by my blog.
By the way, I think yours is the cutest blog template EVER designed by Shannon.

Ooooo...you go to school with Hobbits. Awesome! I'm glad it was a good first class. I hope your Linguistics class pans out, but that's so sad about the professor.

I hope the poetry will be beautiful even if your company isn't. Glad you had a great first day!

Oh dear! Miki told me about those fires. That didn't even make the news here. But don't you worry, the emergency phones at ISU's campus was the top story. That's terribly tragic that the fire burned all those homes. So sad. And you look so swanky and young in you hot bracelet and vest! No Walmart mom for you!!!

That's horrible about the prof. On a lighter note, I'm glad to see that the first class, although without any available men, was a success. May you stretch your poetic muscle and feel free to use us as a sounding board.

Oh goodness, I heard about that professor on the 6am news this morning.

Sorry there is no eye candy in your class--maybe someone delectable will transfer in. ;)

perhaps it is a good thing that there will be no love interests in your poetry class: no distractions on the work...no doodling in the margins whilst you should be listening to the lecture...this a good thing, though there are other females in the class, right?

Lisa said...

Oh my goodness,that is sad.
Most of my professors dressed like homeless people. I could never figure that out.
Remember no love interests, more time to study!!

That is awful. Really.

But I do love your modeling! How couture! Also, what about the prof for dating prospects? Then you could pass along your fashion tips! Ha!

I am glad things are going well. I heard about those fires and your professor yesterday from my mom. So sad.

Completely off the subject, I love your chandelier!

Sad to hear about your professor.

On a cheerier note, thanks for modeling your notebook for us!

Bummer about your poor professor and the wilfire. So sad. I'm glad your class went overall---well! I was really praying for the sexiest single professor alive for you! Maybe those lines of prayer were a little clogged or something??!! I love your painted brick wall! Very pritty! Runway models look out :)

I am glad your first class went well. It will probably feel a little strange for awhile, I know it did for me, but you'll get used to it and then there will be no stopping you.

Bring on the poetry.

I just realized that professor was actually found dead...I thought it was just his home on fire...oh that is horribly sad...

I was going to ASK YOU if you knew of your professor, Mary Ellen Rider, or had a class with her....

Her husband was on the news just yesterday saying that he had gone outside to check on...something...and noticed smoke. By the time he got back to his house, the back side was in flames. He tried to go around to the front, but the fire had reached there also, and his wife was still inside.

He was devistated.....obviously.

My husband left his work right before the fire started (his work building is RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET)...I mean...he JUST missed it because I called him to get on his motorcycle and get home before the storm caught him. I didn't want him on his motorcycle during the storm.

That wind blew SOOO hard, it broke our wooden fence. Those houses just didn't have a chance with that wind.

Miki said...

Elena...did you know this professor?

Miki said...

I need to edit....The professor's husband's words were..."I didn't think she made it out"...on the news story.

He didn't actually KNOW for sure if she was still in the house or not...

Sorry if I caused confusion, or feelings of a little bit of anger toward him for not "helping her out" somehow. He didn't know if she was in there or not.

He found out later, like everyone else, that she didn't make it. I edited my first comment to tell the story quickly, but it made it sound as if he knew she was still in there....sorry.

It is me, the blog slug. That stinks about your prof. No fun. And yes to your chair, let me get in to the swing of back-to-school/mom/PTO Pres./preschool mix and we will work it out. I don't charge that much to people I like! ;)

I have that SAME notebook! Except it's owls...I guess it's not the same after all. But I'm guessing you got that at Target. In the school supply shopping aisle. Right?

Sorry to hear about your professor. That's horrible.

Sorry there is no eye candy in your class.

Sorry about your professor.

But, your vest rocks.

LOVE that light in your dining room!

The song is cracking me up...

Yikes! That is really sad news about that professor.
But I am glad you had a good first day.

Carla said...

Haha, a professor that doesnt dress the part... well if he teaches good then it can make up for his dressing perhaps?

Love Heather's analogy of your classmates. Hobbits. That had me laughing out loud!
Glad your first day "back" wasn't horrible.
Your professor probably thinks he's making a fashion statement. Too bad it's "I look like I'm homeless".
Sorry about the news of your other professor.
That's just tragic.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to that family. We understand how hard it is to lose someone so suddenly.
Blessings, Brienne

Very sad. I read she was a fantastic Linguistics teacher too.

Perhaps the one of the D&D kids has an incredibly successful and handsome older brother. That may be a long shot...

I love your vest, BTW.

What an exciting time for you!!! Too bad about the men...but maybe that will help you focus on your writing.

That is terrible about the prof too! What a terrible way to die.

Ew, kinds starts the semester off on a bad note.

I loved the model job and the brick wall behind you - is that really brick or just really good painting? I love that look!!!!

Sad about the professor.

Glad your first class went well.

Thank goodness there were no self-depreciating remarks about your photo. You look smashing per usual. And love the note book. I can hook you up with some really cute Zac Efron spirals...

And is the professor dating material? Maybe he could use the fashion advice? I dated one of my professors in college. We don't need to get into the age gap...

So on a totally off-the-subject note, I wanted to tell you your dining room looks beautiful. I LOVE your chandeleer (I know that's spelled incorrectly). And the color combination of your walls is fabulous. It makes me curious to know what the rest of your house looks like. :)

Oh and I enjoyed the model pose. I'm sure if Bob Barker were alive you could be one of his 'beauties'. HA!
