my all alone day--a poorly written fairytale with no moral whatsoever

Once upon a time there was a mom who got a day all to herself.

For the first time in a month Brad took the boys for the weekend. And I was all alone. And though I missed the poo out of my kiddos, it was good to catch my breath. Just so you know, to me "catch my breath" means to keep myself as busy as humanly possible. That makes sense, right?! Anyhow, this is how I spent my day when there was no one to take care of but me:

I slept in until 8:30. Woo-hoo! Then spent almost 4 hours mowing, weeding, pruning, and picking in my yard and garden. See how pretty!:

Blisters on my hands, not so pretty:

Took a loooooong shower (boy! did slaving away in the 95 degree heat make me stinky!), got dressed and I was ready to go. Look at me wearing a white shirt AND white pants. That is an outfit only a woman without children can wear (which is why I think I've wore those white pants minus 3 times up to this point....).
First stop was the trampoline store (did you even know those existed?!). Our well-loved trampoline went from looking like this: To this:
Not that this isn't totally attractive in my backyard, but I think it'll look better repaired.

First errand DONE.

As I drove around, I listened to her REALLY loud. And no one said "Mom! Turn it down! We don't like this music!" :)

Look at the beautiful Idaho scenery:

Don't try and move here all at once now!!!

Next, I went to visit with my mama: I know she's not really at the cemetery, but I think she humors me and hangs out when I come. We have some good talks together there anyway. She was a wise, wise woman---and I sure need some of her wisdom at this point in life.

By now it was after 4:00 and I remembered all I'd had to eat so far today was....water. So, I made a little stop here:
Mmmmmm.....dark chocolate with peanut butter and banana. Eaten with about 25 napkins spread over those darn white pants!

Last up was a stop at the tar-jay where the scent of popcorn and Isaac Mizrahi hung heavy in the air: They were in the middle of the summer to fall cHaos, so it was 99% junky clearance, but I had fun looking around and trying on hats. I even purchased exciting things such as a light bulb (!) and hand sanitizer (!).

Then it was back to home where I spent an hour folding this:

while watching season 3 of this for the eleventeenth time:

and hatching a plan to fix this poor pathetic wall that I have hated since I first hung all of it up two years ago: I love the idea of a family photo wall, but this one just never quite got done like I wanted. Wait till you see what I do with it (stay tuned later this week!....).

FINALLY, I finished my day catching up on all of your lives till the wee hours of the morning.....spreading my comment lovin' around like Keven Federline spreads his DNA...... and doing my best to bring peace, love, and joy to blogland. And that was my all alone day.

Oh yeah, and I lived happily ever after.

The End.

Wow! What a day! Sounds like it was very productive. You didn't fall prey to the Target mystique and purchase a hundred dollars worth of stuff you didn't need? I'm impressed. Idaho looks very spacious and pretty for a city girl like me. Sounds like a great day.

dear kevin,
thank you so much for spreading the DNA all the way over to England up at Trash Towers. It was lovely to have you visit.

Glad you survived the day, what with the dark chocolate ice-cream and white trousers (pants are a different thing outside of the US;).

Read your week's catchup and I don;t think you have a bias at all - those boys are cute!

Glad you had the day to yourself. Fantastic.
I think the photo of you in the last post is great.
And I love the sound of that icecream. Cant wait to go to Hawaii and taste such things as peanut butter and chocolate!!

PS: I love the Office. It is one of my favourite shows of all time ( the English one though - have not seen the American version.)

It sounds like a great day. Especially the sleeping in part. :) I can't wait to see what you do with your wall.

so glad you got to take some time to focus on YOU... YOU are great!

I'm in awe of your energy. Just that yard work alone would've made me take the rest of the day off to nap. :)

You deserve a day like that. Hope they come more often.

Wow you are amazing, when my kids are gone I tend to just veg out and do nothing. You did yard work and even folded laundry while watching TV. I think I may have curled up in the laundry to watch TV. You are wonderful and you clean up all to well.

Glad you had some time to just be YOU! You looked wonderful in your outfit and I am impressed that you ordered chocolate ice cream wearing it. I would not have had the guts to do that!!
Thanks for your comments, I appreciate them.
Have a blessed week!

Man, a day alone without even so much as a curfew....I could do with one of those. Oh the things that could be accomplished. By the way, you garden looks LOVELY!! And aren't you spanking hot in that white outfit?! AND 9one more) why in the WORLD did I NOT know you mom's name was Delores??? Where have I been?

I'm so glad you got a day to yourself. You were incredibly "productful" as my hubby sometimes says. Coldstone is always a great choice for lunch. I actually have a coupon and if we weren't so far away from each other, I could have shared that with you. It was a two for $5. Oh well. Maybe next time!

Looks like you had a nice day even though you probably missed the boys like crazy. At least you have a family photo wall. We have been here for a year and have to hang up anything.
btw...your line about spreading around comment lovin was hilarious. A classic!

so glad you had some time to yourself. I always dream about an entire weekend to myself, but usually after a couple of hours I'm ready for my family. Glad you kept yourself busy and accomplished so much. I'm really looking forward to seeing your photo wall. Since moving, I have boxes of photos sitting in my hallway and I really need inspiration.

That sounds just heavenly!! I'd kill for a day like that.

Your KFed joke had me spitting my coke on the computer!

I am so glad I wasn't consuming any sort of beverage when I read that K-Fed line. It would have gone all over my laptop!

i'll be that was kind of strange having a day without the boys. it just sometimes always seems to be that way. ours lives revlove so much around the little ankle-bitters, that we loose ourselves sometimes.
way to find yourself in the white outfit ;)
i LOVE your line: "spreading my comment lovin' around like Keven Federline spreads his DNA" that had me chuckling....very clever lady!

I'll bet that ice cream was refreshing after working in the heat all day and NOT. EATING. Isn't it funny that that seems like a luxury? Not having to cook for anyone ALL.DAY.LONG? Lucky you getting to wear white! I'm glad you spread your love all over bloggy land and hope it's not too hard to become mommy again on Monday! :) NOt that you didn't work hard all day......I'm thinking of my vacation and coming home and it being really, well......difficult. :)

OOooooh, she's inspired to do a wall....a family photo wall no less. What's in that little mind of yours? I can't wait to see.

This day you had would be great, and sad, all at the same time. You DID get to wear white, sleep in, have your own thoughts ALL DAY without someone bursting into your brain saying, "MOMMY!". Ahhhhh. You handled it very well. Good for you....and don't pop those blisters unless they hurt. Did you already know that?

Unsolicited advice....it's dangerous territory.

I love Diana Krall and your day sounded wooooonderful! Did you really get on your fancy pants for a day of errands? I've learned so much! You looked so pretty in pink!

I love that you stopped to have a chat with your mom. I'm sure she thought you looked extra pretty that day too!

I can't imagine that kind of quiet for more than a couple of hours at a time. I would NOT know what to do! If that ever happens to me...I'm copying you, mmmmk? I always need light bulbs and hand sanitizer. :)

Isn't it funny that when a mom gets a moment alone we do what - work!!! I am glad that you got some time to yourself and to talk to your mom. And yes I want to move there right now, oh, how I miss Idaho. It really is a great place and so tranquil.

Not the most glamorous day ever, but I enjoyed hearing about it. The cemetary, the trampoline store, your yard, laundry, Target, goodness girl, this was quite a day! I'm impressed with how much you got accomplished. :o)

You know you could try NOT to be so lazy next time you have a weekend to yourself. Yardwork...reorganzing...laundry...come ON could you try to fit a little more into your schedule next time!?!

As for that ice cream. YUM!

Sounds like a wonderful day to me! Here I sit. I dropped my kids off almost an hour ago with Grandma Cheryl (she's not REALLY their grandma, but she is a grandma and she is Cheryl). And what am I doing? Reading blogs! Not on my list of things to do. But it's oh, so fun. Love your blog!

You are SOMETHIN' girl! PLEASE tell me that you did not dig that hole for your trampoline all by your lonesome? I'm glad to hear you got a much needed break. Can't wait to see the wall! Am counting the days until The Office Season Premiere! Bet your boys were glad to get home to you! (You are lookin' great in your white pants too and your hair is sooo cute!)

I think having children makes *me* need to wear a bib. That chocolate ice cream would have made it onto my clothes regardless of the scads of napkins!

Sounds like your day was fruitful!

Yeah to happily ever after! I have yet to have a full day to just myself. I did go to girls camp (a whole three days) while Grandma watched the kids. But I do get many moments to myself that are wonderful. Living at home with family helps make that happen.
Thanks for your comment. And I'm enjoying reading your blog.

sounds like exactly what i would have done. i always like reading your fun comments over at chatting at the sky, so i figured i check your blog out. i think i'll definitely be back. thanks for your fun post. i just posted about missing my mama, too... so that definitely stuck out. thanks for a fun read.

Most impressive. Really. Because when the girls were both gone for an entire week to sleep away camp, I did nothing productive. Not one thing.

And look at your cute self in your white outfit. Comments about your "photographability" are no longer valid. :-)

I love this post. I love that you worked yourself like a dog with only water to drink all day and then had peanut butter and chocolate to fill yourself up. GIRLY, I tell you. You speak my language.

Love it. Love it all.

I have not had a day off to myself (a whole day, morning and everything) in over 5 years! What is sleeping in again? I just can't fathom the concept.

That was a nice fairy tale--to a very well-deserved mom in my opinion.

You are so dang cute! How do you stay so stylin' with the four boys? I'm only up to three Kids and feel like a frumpaholic.

There is something so refreshing about your day!!

Debbie said...

Yeah I'm number 50! I actually think your day sounded pretty darn good! If you had done that with 4 boys in tow, it would have taken a week or more to accomplish what you did in one weekend. I hope you enjoyed every minute of that JP time! Besides, it was fun to read!

What a day! And I love what you had for dinner! It's funny the eating habits we moms will resort to when the kids aren't looking. I hope you will get another opportunity soon for some quiet time -- or loud music and grown-up TV time!
