The first part of this post came from my niece Brittany. Can you guess what organization it's talking about?:
36 have been accused of spousal abuse
7 have been arrested for fraud
19 have been accused of writing bad checks
117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses
3 have done time for assault
71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit
14 have been arrested on drug-related charges
8 have been arrested for shoplifting
21 currently are defendants in lawsuits,
and 84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year
What organization is this?..........
NBA?
NFL?
Neither....it's the 435 members of the United States Congress. The same group of "qualified men and women" that crank out hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the rest of us in line.
Want more hypocrisy? Read this. You'll leave laughing, or crying, or fuming.... or all of them.
I'm just sayin' people: the founding fathers were not idiots in their determination to give as much power and decision making to the people as possible. They conceived our system of government after studying the entire scope of history and what had caused past governments to succeed or fail. And history does nothing if not repeat itself. An overly arrogant central government and a weak-minded people who hand too many of their rights over to them will fall. "We the People" are still in charge. If we all stand up and speak out, with pitchfork and torch in hand if necessary, we can save ourselves and our democracy. The answer doesn't lie in any particular candidate, but in us. Just think about it.
This is where I stand, and for some crazy reason (maybe that it's Thursday and I'm out of Chocolate Chex?), I felt the need to make it known. Hope I still have readers in the morning!
And now that this pot is sufficiently stirred......have at me!
*and for those of you who were curious--I wrote in my comments section from yesterday's post about how Zane's first day of school went!

Love the pitchfork and torch comment. It is difficult to know where to start. When I look closely all of them have a little Frankenstein in them...even the women.
ALMOST the first post! i guess this goes to show that we've all got "junk" in one way or another. Thanks so much for the comment on my blog - you are always so encouraging! Can't wait to read about Zane's first day at school!
Those statistics were shocking. It just makes me want to throw my hands up in the air more than anything. But I know I can't.
Oh you are stirring up the pot. Can I throw some cayenne in there? Oh wait, I think it's bubbling over!
Jennifer for President!!!
Great stats! Thanks for the 'business' advice. At first I was like... wait a minute, did she read my post right? The second comments cleared it up. LOL I'm glad you enjoyed them. I have an interview this morning with a co. and I'm sure it will go great. "If" I get the job- I must say if, but the odds are I will, since I've already worked for them- I will be posting new work on my website.
Ps. Chocolate chex sounds realy good right now!
This reminds me of the John Mayer song "Waiting on the World to Change". I HATE that song. Seriuosly, if you're that upset about the way things are done then DO something, don't criticize and wait for someone else to change it.
Oh yea! I guessed it after the first two stats. I couldn't agree more! If we would hold our legislators (not to mention president... don't get me started there) accountable perhaps our 'democracy' would be restored.
Quote that is often quoted, rarely acted upon: "Be the change you wish to see in the world" - Mahatma Gandhi
Oh no, don't even get me started.
i think that we all like to "sweep" our old mistakes under the rug (& not so old mistkaes as well) and hope and pray that people forget about them. i think that when a person is running for any type of office, along with their platform, they should post any and all past and present indiscretions and illegaliities....so that we the people that can decide what kind of person they "really" are. (and p.s. on that one as well: you can get someone's record, especially if they are running for public office...i'll have to talk to my friends in the force and see what you have to do to get it--and i only know people on the force b/c there is a guy in our ward that is a deterctive---didn't want you thinking that i have anything to push under the rug....though i have been in the rexburg jail before--oh, but that is another story all together!)
These numbers are at best inflated and out-of-date (they originally cropped up in 1999) and at worst fabricated. Check out the Snopes article about it. We have to remember to check sources before we accuse others! (Though I agree with the point you make in the second part, the government should not be as centralized and powerful as it is today!)
Jennifer loves herself a little pot stirring politics. :) I'm still laughing about the Glenn Beck you sent. I guess this is a good reminder that nobody is perfect and that we all need to help each other out in the world. P.S. I love that Zane didn't know what the bells were for. So cute. Glad his day was good. How is the mama handling things?
Oh man, I can't win for trying today. Sorry, I posted twice. And I realized that I left out the word book. "Glenn Beck book", there let's see if that's everything.
I didn't realize that I now have two very political friends. One, a high school friend, Doug, and now YOU!!! I've noted that you mention politics from time to time, but now, it's solid. Doug has just got me started on the political roller coaster. I have three emails in my in box "as we type" all to do with it. I told him to keep them coming because I want to be involved. I'm sentimental about our country, but I don't keep up. Remember my answer to your Secretary of Defense question? Or was it Secretary of something else...see?
WOW!! I honestly wouldn't have guessed! I am shocked...OK..no...i guess not shocked...but dissapointed. I wish more people could hold themselves in enough regard to act responsibly and maturly. so sad!
Don't even get me started on politics. There are only a few things that push my buttons, and I won't let those buttons be pushed...I want a relaxing day...relax - deep breaths - hee hee.
I love that you are keeping the home school mom in your profile. I got your a box of kleenex yesterday, and I would be more than to share my kids for a day if you are really missing the home school thing. Seriously, it's no problem...I'll share - all five of them.:)
Ronnica--
Thanks for the heads up. I thought the email I got had been ran through snopes already--but I get enough of them that I'm never sure!
I guess everyone can take or leave the first part and just focus in on my message in the second part....and read the article. The article is great!
Don't you love Snopes? And I love political pot stirring. And conspiracy theories. Love 'em.
(But can I say that I am irritated by the new Kevin Costner movie where the presidency is held up by one vote. Doesn't Hollywood know that we have an electoral college? And that we don't actually live in a democracy?)
Amen sister!!!!!!!
I have seen similar statistics before (actually applied to Canada's Parliament) so always figured it was an urban myth. However, I wonder if you might find a similar breakdown of vice in any large organization? What if you applied the same scrutiny to your local hospital surgical staff, school board, baseball league umpires or police force?
At first I thought you were talking about my extended family. I agree wholeheartedly, politicians get a bad rap because most of them are BAD. You are right to stir the pot and I am going to go to the voting booth with my pitch fork and let my anger be heard.
I wrote this on my comments and then thought that you are never going to go back and see it so here it is.
Jennifer-
One day I will have to tell you my story about tremendous hurt and finding love when I never thought I would. It is truly amazing now that I can look back on it Heavenly Father really did have a plan for me. I know that there is someone amazing out there for you, because you are amazing and it will happen again for you.
and then I got all excited and pushed the publish button before I could tell you my e-mail - tshiner@gmail.com. If you want to hear the story then e-mail me and I will divulge.
Yes Leigh Anne (LULA) and I went to college together. I went on her first date with her husband (because it was a blind date). We've been part of a 5 gal posse since then. We got together last April - pretty fun. I love that you let your boys in the rain in their PJ's. I would totally do that.
I am so getting a pitchfork. You know why I love this post? Cause it's not whining about a certain politician. It's saying, the people truly do have the power, we just need to decide what kind of country/society we want to live in and make it happen.
You go girl.
I can't believe those stats! Disturbing. Something awful happens when people get a hold of so much power. Yep...it's time to take it back!!
