Two years ago we were a cool family of five cruisin' the town in our family-sized, yet still stylish, Dodge Intrepid. When we learned there was another baby on the way we were overjoyed!.....Then we looked into the backseat. The backseat where every available inch was occupied by children and car seats.
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" asked Brad.
"No!" I answered, "there has to be some other way! Perhaps some kind of a side car like they have for motorcycles?"
"I could ride in the trunk" offered Brad.
"Maybe we could find a used limousine?" I wondered.
But it was hopeless. Despite our desperate attempts to hold on to the last speck of our youth, we had to take that last and final step into the realm of parenthood. We had to join...........the van set!
I actually love our mini-van. As long as I keep my eyes forward, it feels like I'm behind the wheel of a luxury vehicle. It's only when I turn around and observe the storage facility of children-dom that I drive around that I long for my car again--or that sidecar--and REALLY that limousine with the little window that blocks off all the noise between the driver and passengers. Sigh!
Anyway, I offer the following video link for all you fellow members of the van-set, and even for you slightly more privileged members of the Suburban-set (at least you guys have that 'rugged' image going for you!). But please keep your Kleenex box nearby. I laughed till I cried!
Thanks Meg for turning me onto this.

me too.
i think this is the funniest video! it is so true in every way. the milk bottles exploding, the duck tape on the mirror (saying "i've got a man"), the balls rolling around, kicking the seat till something breaks.
genius.
film making at it's finest if you ask me.
Tears I tell you! Tears!!!! SOOOO hilariously true. JArom and I were just laughing about the time (the new years eve party) when we all took our "new" van for a spin. IT was such luxury then. And although I love my new "rugged" rig, (that smells exactly like this video looks) I honestly can say I miss my smooth ride van. Thanks for sharing, I laughed til my sides hurt.
Oooooooooooooooooooo that was good! What a funny thing. I had to watch it twice! And yay, I get to watch it again with Jeff tonight when he gets home from class! He's going to love it!
That was soooo funny. I too love my van (when facing forward.) Smooth ride, doors that open with a push of a button (what other car does that for under $25k?). Every time we pull up next to a "single" man in a really nice car Steve always says "ya, but can you seat seven?" Someday I will have the "car" again. But even with two kids it may be a long way off because the van is just sooo convenient......and I can carry SEVEN without moving a seat and no one has to climb! How AWESOME is that?
meg,
i say thanks again for finding this--you gave us all the best ab. workout ever!
Elena,
I remember riding in your van too. I think that's when I first thought, hmmmm maybe a van wouldn't be SO bad!
Emily,
Hope Jeff laughs as hard as you did! I think men can really relate to the duct tape part! (or at least to other men who fix stuff like that!)
Lee Ann,
6 of our 7 seats may be filled, but we still have that all important seventh seat for the babysitter or one child's friend (or a pile of papers and library books as is usually the case!). Very convenient indeed!
The first thing that made me smile was the Spice Girls that was playing when I first opened your page! Thanks for that! It reminded me of the days when my roommates I memorized their songs and danced around the apartment in our underwear...yep...those were the days.
The video made me forget about the throat pains, because I was focusing on my stomach pains from laughing so hard! That was hysterical. You knew just what I would need! Thanks. ;)
Kam,
Yeah '98 was a great year! I had a pair of those platform boots like the Spice Girls wore. I fell down the stairs at the Library wearing them and about broke my neck.... I still like the song though! Hope
you're feeling better SOON and glad I made you forget about how rotten you feel if only for 3:31!
Jen,
funny video! It will be interesting to see how we progress as our family grows. Maybe a wagon and then a van...we'll see. I like the subaru imprezas a lot too.
you can link our blog; i think it will stay private. and, i don't think the other ones are accessible through it either, so that should be fine.
thanks for always keeping up with us.

can you e-mail me your street address for the baby shower invite? it's not going to be till after the fact, but i'm trying to compile everything now. thanks!
